As an accountant, I'm all about value. When it came time to buy an air compressor for my home shop, I compared brands on price, performance, and durability. In the end, I chose a Speedaire 5HP 60-Gallon compressor. Not the cheapest, but backed by great warranty and service. This thing is a workhorse! Plenty of power and airflow for all my impact wrenches and air tools. The cast iron pump is built to last. I've put this compressor through the ringer with long hours of use. It just keeps going strong after 3 years. The large tank capacity is perfect - provides a steady air supply for extended periods. No annoying restart cycles like the pancake compressors. I highly recommend Speedaire compressors for anyone looking for professional-grade power and reliability at a fair price.
As a general contractor, air power is crucial for my crew on job sites. We use pneumatic tools all day long, so I need compressors I can count on. In the past, I wasted tons of money replacing cheap units that couldn't withstand our heavy daily use. After trying a few Speedaire models, I'm sold. The cast iron pumps hold up to the rigorous demands of our work. We run multiple units together to power air tools at several locations on a site. The electric models maintain consistent pressure all day without overheating or tripping breakers. Much quieter than gas engine compressors. I also appreciate the large tank capacities and quick recovery during high demand. Speedaire definitely delivers the strength and performance we need for large-scale construction work. Worth every penny.
As a pro mechanic, air tools are my livelihood. I service fleets of service trucks with pneumatic impacts, sanders, drills etc. Reliable air is crucial to getting jobs done on time. My old compressor was constantly struggling to keep up with demand. After researching options for a replacement, I bought the Speedaire 80-gallon vertical two-stage compressor. This thing is a beast! Plenty of power and airflow for multiple tools running simultaneously. The two-stage pump isn't cycling nearly as often as my old single-stage did. That means less wear & tear and maintenance. I'm able to work much faster thanks to consistent uninterrupted air. The price was reasonable considering the quality. Speedaire is definitely shop-grade equipment built for professionals. My only regret is not upgrading sooner!
As a hobbyist woodworker, I enjoy tinkering around in my garage shop on weekends. When my small pancake compressor died, I knew I needed something more heavy-duty for airbrushing, nail guns, and sanders. After looking at several brands, I decided to invest in a Speedaire 3HP 80-gallon compressor. I'm so glad I spent a little more, because this thing delivers exactly what I need. The cast iron pump is super high quality and maintains steady pressure even under heavy use. I never have to wait for it to catch up when running multiple tools. The tank is big enough to provide sufficient air for extended run times. It's a bit noisy, but the performance more than makes up for it. I feel good knowing this compressor will handle my needs for many years to come. For serious DIYers, Speedaire is worth the investment.
As the owner of a busy auto body shop, air power is the heartbeat of our business. We run grinders, sanders, impacts and more all day to repair crashed vehicles quickly. Reliability is paramount, or else jobs get backed up. My shop has used Speedaire compressors for 15 years without a single breakdown or major issue. The rugged cast iron pumps hold up to extremely heavy daily use on multiple shifts year after year. The large tank capacities supply our big pneumatic paint booths without flinching. I can run a dozen tools simultaneously without losing power. The electric models maintain steady pressure without spiking our energy bills like gas compressors do. Speedaire definitely delivers the horsepower, airflow and reliability I expect from professional shop-grade equipment. My business depends on it. They've earned my loyalty.

There are a few factors to consider when selecting the right air compressor for your needs - required air flow (CFM), pressure (PSI), and tank size. Calculate your air demands to determine the minimum CFM and PSI. Also consider future expansion needs. Generally, a larger tank will allow for longer run times. Speedaire offers a wide range of models to suit both portable and stationary applications.
For piston type compressors, we recommend using a quality 30 weight non-detergent oil (ND30). This oil is specifically formulated for use in reciprocating air compressors. Speedaire brand oil meets all our specifications. Never use automotive motor oils, as they lack corrosion inhibitors needed for air compressor crankcases.
First check that the unit is plugged in and your breaker hasn't tripped. Inspect the pressure switch and ensure the power reset button is depressed. Check for loose wiring connections. If those items check out, the pressure switch, check valve, or electric motor may need replaced. Contact our tech support team for troubleshooting help.
Cast iron pumps offer rugged construction and usually have a longer service life than aluminum. They resist heat damage better but are heavier. Aluminum pumps are lighter weight but more prone to overheating if worked too hard. For occasional use, an aluminum pump will suffice. For heavy-duty use, go with cast iron.
As a general rule, you should inspect the air filter every 100 hours and replace when visibly dirty. Changing it more frequently improves air quality and prevents premature wear in your air tools. Use only genuine Speedaire filters sized specifically for your model. Proper filtration prevents moisture and particles from entering the pump.
Our pressure switches are factory pre-set to optimal pressure ranges based on the compressor model. While they are field-adjustable, we do not recommend you attempt to modify the settings. Incorrect adjustment can lead to pump damage or hazardous over-pressurization. For specialty pressure requirements, add a downstream pressure regulator.
For branch line feeders, use 1/2" or larger pipe up to 50 ft runs, 3/4" pipe for 50-100 ft runs. Main distribution lines should be 3/4" to 1-1/4" pipe. Use 3/8" I.D. hose for portability, 1/2" I.D. for 25 ft runs, 3/4" I.D. for longer runs. Undersized piping causes pressure drop. Oversized lines waste money. Correct sizing allows proper air flow.
Moisture fuels rust and corrosion. Install a point-of-use air filter/dryer at each drop to remove moisture and particles. For large systems, install a refrigerated air dryer like the Speedaire Dryer at the compressor. Maintain an upstream separator and drain condensation daily. Avoid low spots where moisture can collect.
For optimal performance and safety, set the tank (cut-out) pressure between 90-120 PSI on small reciprocating units. Higher cut-out pressures run the pump harder and hotter while providing no benefit. Use a downstream regulator to control line pressure. Never exceed the max rated pressure of your compressor tank.
To prevent corrosion, drain daily. Drain more often in humid environments or high usage. Install an automatic drain valve for hands free operation. Always drain the tank before transporting your compressor. Moisture accumulation can shorten tank life and lead to pump damage over time.
